Matt Black (a.k.a. Double Cushion) is half of DJ duo+multimedia pop group Coldcut, and founders of Ninja Tune.
In 2020 Ninja Tune celebrated 30 years as one of the world’s leading electronic music labels and a beacon for the independent music spirit. In 2017 Coldcut celebrated 30 years with a string of gigs releases and special projects. A new album ‘Keleketla’ was released July 2020 to ‘universal acclaim’ (Metacritic).

Known for innovations in DJing, remix, mashup, VJing, software, digital art and multimedia, combining cutting edge artistic expression with positive activist themes. Coldcut have worked with a wild range of artists/ activists eg James Brown, Mark E Smith, Queen Latifah, Jello Biafra, Saul Williams, Lisa Stansfield, Steve Reich, Crass, Roots Manuva, Lee Scratch Perry, Adrian Sherwood, Tony Allen, Joe Armon- Jones, the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, the RCA, Greenpeace, and Avaaz.

In 2021 Matt compiled the all ambient album @0 with all label proceeds going to mental health charities and featuring a continuous mix with Mixmaster Morris.

His recent inventions include the beat app Jamm. Matt’s stated ambition is to ‘create positive art, music and spiritual technology to blow the minds of the entire planet and advance cooperative strategies’.

Album Concept:

It is year 2102. An intergalactic sonic research laboratory - Nādāsana - has launched their first sonic space probe mission into the majestic galaxy, Messier 31 - The Andromeda Galaxy.

Following the example of the golden record of NASA’s Voyager project which was led by Dr Carl Sagan(1934-1996), Nādāsana has curated fine ambient music pieces to establish contact with sensory conscious beings in outer space through sounds created on planet Earth.
Nādāsana considers ambient music to be music of evolutive creation, encouraging inclusiveness through time and space. Doing so, it opens a poetic and spiritual sphere of music for consideration which could offer a glimpse of the hidden stream of the eternal sonic creations of the universe. Nādāsana is an experiment to uncover the ancient mystery of AUM – Everything is Sound.

NOTE: This project is an imaginary concept (as of 2022). The selection of music can be highly biased, however Nādāsana’s love to music is honest and genuine.
